Pipesmoking courses for starters

For many people the tobacco pipe has a magical quality. The smell and the taste both soothes the partaker and carries him into an almost unparallelled calmness. Moreover, relaxing with a pipe allows one to sit back in one’s arm chair and contemplate transcendental and universal truths, as Schopenhauer would say.

In the old days, the practicalities of pipe smoking were taught by your father or elder brother. In an era of anti-smoking fascism and political correctness and conformity to the pre-established norm, learning to smoke a pipe has become a lot different and initiation a matter of individual expression of what might be called the Nietzchean esprit libre.

The choice of the pipe and the tobacco, the techniques of smoking and the care of the pipe are not so evident as many people believe. For this reason the Pijpenkabinet Foundation organises regular meetings for candidate pipesmokers and those who would like to learn more about the subject.

During the evening a choice of pipe is suggested, as well as the technique of packing, lighting, smoking and looking after the pipe is taught. Certainly there is time to ask questions and of course the atmosphere of the evening radiates with the love of the pipe and the enjoyment of smoking with fellow enthusiasts
