Contracts regarding wages for the pipe industry

Abstract: This article describes the way the wages were payed in the pipe makers workshops over the time. It starts with the earlier period of which very few contracts were found back. About the nineteenth century situation much more is known. In that time the assortment of pipes became larger and the wages of the workmen varied more and more. By 1910 wages were partly controlled by the government and the manufacturers were stimulated to pay the same wages for similar work. In the years before and slortly after the First World War the wages for the pipemakers were uniformed and also the circumstances in the workshops became more equal. The article also deals with the height of the wages for the different types of work.
