Seventeenth and eighteenth century pipes from Flushing, Sealand

Zeventiende en achttiende eeuwse pijpen uit Vlissingen

By Don Duco

Abstract: Discussion of a find of 91 pipe bowls and 337 stem fragments dating from the seventeenth and eighteenth century. From the earlier material we can conclude that the smoker in Sealand was quite well informed about the fashion in pipe styles that took place in the province of Holland. The local industry copied these products so well that sometimes it is hard to distinguise where the pipes were made. After the year 1700 the local industry disappeared and mainly Gouda products were used.
