Pipe research, between mathematics and recognition

Abstract: This article describes the work of three Dutch pipe researchers in their struggle to come to a usefull dating system for clay tobacco pipes. Dirk Goedewaagen using as starting point the development of the bowl styles in Gouda pipes. Frits Friederich basing his works on the growing of the pipe bowl in course of time and Don Duco analysing the development of all the characteristics of the clay tobacco pipe.
