A press mould for the Peace of Aachen pipeDe oudste Goudse persvormBy Don Duco An article dedicated to a the world's oldest pipe mould characteristic for Gouda and dating from 1748. The author tells more about the origin of this typical so called halvemaatspijp, a pipe half the size of the standard Gouda pipe. Also the unusual shape of the bowl and the decoration is discussed, including the group of makers that produced these type of pipes. The mould is a nice example of an object that characterizes various episodes of use: from production material for a standard article to a mould occasionally in use, thereafter as an object to exhibit and finally as a museum piece to underline the illustre history of the pipe industry.
