Cigar bags from AmsterdamOriginal title: Het Amsterdamse sigarenzakjeBy Don Duco Abstract: This article describes the history of the cigar bag from the earliest times in about 1840 till the moment of its disappearance. The history is told using preserved bags that have a relation with the town of Amsterdam and are described thematically. In the large variation of themes the subject related tobacco and its various wrappers dominate. Till about 1880 there is no standardization in the cigar bag, thereafter a sort of unique style is developed that is kept in use till the end of World War I. After 1920 the variation becomes larger, however the styles differ more and more, while the designs are less elaborate. The cigar bag disappears in the 1960 and 1970 when the sale of loose cigars stops. Sorry, we do not have an English text of this article available.
